I love some cherry pie but a cupcake that looks like cherry pie…..well that’s even better. February 20th is National Cherry Pie Day, I know how awesome is that? So I was looking around for some fun ideas to celebrate with the kids when I came up with the fun idea. You know because cherry pie isn’t enough, you need more desserts on a holiday like National Cherry Pie Day!
These are super easy and simple to make and they don’t have to be perfect. I realize mine is definitely not perfect and that is ok. This should just be for fun so don’t stress about it. Let the kids do it, it’s that simple. To get started, make your favorite cupcakes. I did some vanilla and some chocolate, so whatever works for you. I will include here a super quick and easy vanilla cupcake recipe to use if you would like.
Once you have your cupcakes, it’s time to start decorating them. This is way easier then you think, so don’t worry.

You will need:
Red M&M’s (or you can use any kind of red candy)
Brown food coloring (or brown frosting if you can find it pre-made)
Frost your cupcake with plain white frosting and then make a single layer of red M&M’s. Don’t overcrowd the cupcake with M&M’s just a single layer, spread them out but make sure it’s covered.
For the frosting, I used store-bought frosting and then used some brown food coloring to turn some of it brown for the pie crust.
Using your piping bag make the pie crust lattice pattern then finish is with doing a border all the way around the outside.
That’s it, all done! You did it. These are super cute and super easy to do. The kids will love them and they are easy enough that they can decorate them. I let me 9-year-old do these and I think they turned out adorable.
Oh these look so fun to make! We love making cupcakes and cookies! Have to give these a try!
