Now that it’s summer I want to make sure my kiddos are not in front of a screen all day. It’s so easy to fall into that habit of letting them have the TV or tablet so they are busy and not under your feet all day. With school being out we have so much free time to fill. Although, I do find benefits in electronics I also want my kids to explore the world without them. In hope of keeping my eight-year-old off the tablet and using her imagination, we were lucky enough to get to work with Our Generation from Battat Toys to help her find her creative side and use her imagination.
Our Generation dolls are a line from Battat Toys that feature a variety of quality 18-inch dolls. They have various lines including hair play dolls, regular dolls, retro dolls, and even specialty dolls. They have the perfect doll for every little girl. The best part is you can find a doll that looks like your daughter if you want. You can find one that fits her likes and hobbies. My daughter loves playing with her dolls hair so we got her Parker which is a hair play doll. She comes with lots of accessories so you can do her hair. We also got her Vienna which is a regular doll. My daughter loves playing with both of them and drags them everywhere she goes on all her summer adventures.
Of course the best part of having an Our Generation doll is dressing her up. They have so many different outfit options. Each doll comes with an outfit and some with accessories but you can purchase additonal outfits for your doll so you can change her clothing frequently. This is my daughter’s favorite part. She loves getting new outfits for her dolls and changing them out. She even has a little area in her closet to keep her dolls clothes. Our Generation sends along hangers the perfect size for doll clothing with thier oufits so she can hang them up so she doesn’t lose them.
They have so many different collections of clothing your kiddo can have a blast trying to collect them all. We fell in love with the deluxe outfits because they include an outfit and really fun accessories like a handbag, sunglasses, shoes, and more. Me daughter is all about the animals so she decided her doll had to have the safari ready outfit that comes with a fun safari hat and camera for your doll. Since it’s summer we had to have the Bright as the Sun outfit too. I’m sure her dolls will get drug to the pool and beach so she needs a fun summer outfit. However, there are so many to choose from it is super hard to pick.
They have a variety of outfits to choose from that fit all sorts of hobbies and activities. They have regular sets, deluxe sets that include accessories, retro sets, and even deluxe retro sets. Something for everyone so that your doll will fit your individual personality.
As I mentioned my daughter really wanted a hair play doll. Our Generation also has some super fun accessory sets to use with your dolls that really bring them to life. The salon chair is so much fun for hair play dolls. You can strap your doll into the chair. It’s a real working chair, goes up and down and everything. Comes with a variety of must-have hair accessories like a comb, blow dryer, scissor (pretend), and clips. Everything you need to let your kiddo get creative and come up with her very own styles for her doll.
If hair is not your thing don’t fret. They have accessories for all sorts of fun imaginative play. Pretty much anything you can think of. They have collections for the home, horses, outdoors, and even retro. So no matter what your kiddo likes you will be able to find a play set to help them act out their adventures.
If hair is your daughter’s passion though they also have a Berry Nice Salon Set that has everything she will need. This set comes with everything you might need to keep your dolls hair cute and stylish. Including the cart to store everything in. You have clips, ponytail holders, curlers, pretend shampoos and styling gels, and even everything you need to dye their hair. It’s a really fun set that will have them playing and imagining all summer.
5 Benefits of Imaginative Play:
Builds Social and Emotional Skills
When engaging in pretend or imaginative play your child is taking on social roles. The process of acting out these social roles builds healthy skills that can be used in real life interactions. Children learn social roles through acting them out in play settings. Providing your child healthy outlets to pretend and play in these roles are key assets to developing these skills.
When children play there is a natural dialogue that takes place. Our children often mimic what they see in the adult role models in their lives. They often take on the role of mom, dad, teacher, etc. You may even be surprised at words and phrases that your child knows and uses in imaginative play. My daughter is taking on the role of hair stylist and she cracks me up sometimes with her imagination of the stylist we often go to. It’s funny what kids pick up on.
Imaginative play puts your child into world experiences where they have to use their noggins to explore and come up with solutions. When my daughter was playing with her dolls she kept coming to me asking what certain things were, she had never seen the dye sheets used in salons (since she has never had her hair dyed), she had never used curlers, and she learned how to fit all the items into the drawers correctly. You never know when play time can become educational time.
Research has found that children build a number of cognitive skills in the process of pretend and imaginative play. These skills include fantasy, make-believe, symbolism, organization, cognitive integration of seemingly separate content, and divergent thinking (the ability to come up with many different ideas, story themes, and symbols). Regular imaginative play helps to strengthen these skills and improve their development.
3 Ways To Promote Imaginative Play this Summer:
Take Advantage of Play Opportunities
Whenever there is an opportunity for them explore and play allow them to do so. Foster a healthy imagination in your child by taking advantage of opportunities that arise throughout the day.
Provide Quality Materials
Provide your child with materials to make pretend play seem more realistic. Whether it’s dolls with accessories or something simple like giving them some old dishes from the kitchen and playdough to make their own foods. Kids can play with just about anything and have a blast.
Play With Them
My daughter loves when we play with her. It makes them feel validated in their play, they get to spend time with you, and it’s pretty fun just saying. I would much rather be playing with my kiddos then adulting any day.
