Nutrisystem Week 33 Update:
Weight Loss this Week: -2.2 Total Weight Loss: -110.4
I am back in the swing of things this week. With the long weekend, I have been working on focusing on my long-term goals. I still have a lot to lose before I have to think about maintaining my weight loss but one thing I really love about the Nutrisystem program is all the tools they give you to learn about and maintain healthy eating. So I am checking out Nutrisystem’s new Cool ‘N Carry kit and learning more about meal prep. Don’t worry I’m sharing my favorite tips too!
My Nutrisystem Journey:
I have come to the conclusion this week that Nutrisystem is going to be a long-term solution for me. I have been so successful on the program and I plan to make it a life-long change. I don’t ever want to gain the weight I’ve lost back, in fact, I hope to keep losing. The program is great when it comes to providing you materials and information to help you make it a lifestyle change rather than just a diet. Which is why I love it so much.
I’ve had some ups and downs as I’ve been on the program but I love that I can get right back on it. The program is so easy to follow that I find it really simple to get back on track if I have a slip. Luckily for me, I have been losing really well on the plan and it works really well for me. I think one thing that makes it so easy for me is the simplicity of the meal plan. I don’t have to think about things. Even the items you fill in on your own like powerfuels and smartcarbs can easily be measured out ahead of time.
Many people think that Nutrisystem is just pre-packaged foods but it isn’t. Every day I have fresh foods that I mix with my diet plan. We add in veggies, powerfuels, and smartcarbs every day. Plus, we have a few flex meals each week as well, that we prepare all on our own. Nutrisystem just introduced some really neat new products with Fit & Fresh to help with meal prep and be prepared for those flex meals and extras. I recently got the Cool ‘N Carry set as a gift from Nutrisystem to try out as a blogger and I love it. It makes prepping my snacks and flex meals super easy and I can easily take them on the go.
Tips & Tricks:
One thing that I have learned over the last seven months is that meal prep and portion control are key to being successful no matter what diet plan you use. On my plan, I add in my own fresh fruits and veggies for my meals and snacks so I like to prep these ahead of time. I do this on the weekends during my weekly meal prep. I thought it would be fun to put together a quick list of my meal prep tips. So here are my top three!
Tip 1: Prep Foods All At Once
The thing I love about my diet plan is that everything is planned out for me and I can quickly and easily grab my foods on the program and heat them up and eat them. I don’t have to think about it or measure anything. So when it comes to the fresh foods that I add to the program to balance it out I also want these to be quick and easy to grab with no measuring or weighing. On the weekends I spend time planning out what I will need each day. A good game plan is necessary when it comes to meal prep success. I put mine all in a weekly meal planner and then write out a grocery list to go with it. I am using mostly fresh foods so there usually isn’t a lot of cooking involved but even if you are cooking your meals I suggest you do it all at once. I like to do mine on Sundays. I plan, shop, and prepare everything on Sunday so I am ready to go for the following week. I can quickly open the fridge grab my foods and go. No thinking, no measuring, no weighing, it’s all done for me.
Tip 2: Invest in a Good Quality Container
Finding quality containers sounds like it doesn’t matter but it does. If you have a good quality container then you will not have to keep replacing them. Plus if you get the right kind it will be a lifesaver in the prepping process. I love these new Fit & Fresh containers that Nutrisystem is carrying. They have a bunch of great containers that are perfect for meal-prep. I pack a lot of salads and their Cool ‘n Carry is the best. It has a removable ice pack in the lid so it keeps your salad cold and fresh for hours. You can prep it ahead of time and then pop in the ice pack to take with you to work or on the go eating. It also features a dressing compartment that you can fill up ahead of time. When you are ready for your salad simply twist the compartment and it will open up to dispense your dressing directly into your salad. How awesome is that?
When it comes to my other snacks and fresh foods I love using containers that help me with portion control as well as meal prep. The set includes 1 cup portion control containers that are perfect. They are great quality and have the measurements right on the side of the container. I can easily measure out my foods without having to dig out a measuring cup. I know that I am getting the perfect serving size because I can see it as a fill the container. Plus they come with two removable ice packs that will keep your food fresh and cold. Perfect for on the go snacking.
Tip 3: Look For Shortcuts
No one wants to spend all day in the kitchen prepping foods so make it easy on yourself and look for shortcuts. I buy pre-cut veggies. I look for simple recipes that I can make quickly and easily. I try to find ways to cut the time by purchasing things that are pre-made but still healthy. So instead of making home-made applesauce, I can grab an organic unsweetened pre-packaged applesauce that I can just grab and take with me. Instead of cutting up veggies all day I can just buy some mini carrots or pre-cut tomatoes. You would be surprised how much time it will cut off your meal prepping time.
