Nutrisystem Week 25 Update:
Weight Loss this Week: -4.2 Total Weight Loss: -89.4
I am feeling so blessed this week. I have had so many kind compliments on my Nutrisystem progress which is always so helpful and motivating. I am loving the progress I have made and how great the program makes me feel. This week I’m working on improving my water drinking game.
My Nutrisystem Journey:
Nutrisystem has become my life. I love the program and how much it has changed my life. I get a lot of questions and comments from family, friends, and complete strangers that I have met online. My biggest tip though no matter what program you are using to help you in your weight loss just keep going. Even if you mess up or have a bad day just get up the next day and keep going. Someone recently asked me how I was doing so well on Nutrisystem and honestly I don’t really know. I’m still shocked by my progress. All I do know is that I follow the plan just like it is written by Nutrisystem. I don’t cheat, I don’t deviate, and I don’t substitute. I stick with it and I follow it strictly. So far it has really worked for me and I hope to keep making progress. One area that I could improve on though is my water intake.
I am not a water lover. I grew up as a latchkey kid of the 90’s. I walked myself home from school and I stayed home for a few hours by myself every day until my parents got home from work. I don’t mind this at all, not at all suggesting that it is the cause of any of my weight related problems. I will say that one negative of this is that I had no one to answer to when it came to after-school snacking. I don’t really ever remember being told that I needed to drink water, I just drank pop (I know this is a southern word for those not in the south….soda). I literally drank several every single day, all day long, all through my childhood and teen years. So the concept of drinking water was literally like a foreign concept to me. Until my 20’s I never knew that drinking pop was so bad for me and that I needed water to make my body healthy. So I come by my lack of water drinking skills honestly.
Even in the past when I have lost weight I often used those sugar-free flavor packets to disguise the water as something that tasted sweet and good. Little did I know that those were full of fake sugar which is also bad for you. So since being on Nutrisystem, I have also been working on dedicating myself to drinking fresh water every day with nothing added (except maybe some fresh lemon). It has been somewhat of a difficult task for me but I have managed to get my 64 ounces in every day. I recently found out though from my doctor that I should (because of my weight) be drinking more than that, more like 115 ounces a day. So I am working on researching and improving my water game this week. I put together a list of my tips I am using to help me meet my new water goal each day.
Tips & Tricks:
Add Natural Flavors:
As I mentioned I used to try to disguise my water with flavoring. That was not a good idea just because those packets are full of fake sugar which is also not very good for you. However, natural fruit is a great way to flavor your water. I love lemon water so I like to add lemon to mine. Just cut up a few wedges and throw them into the pitcher you store your water is or right into the cup you’re drinking from. There are some great infuser water bottles on the market for that as well. I also had pineapple water once when we were on vacation in Maui. It’s the same concept just cut up some slices and add it to the water, it’s so refreshing.
Keep It On Hand:
I started doing much better in drinking water when it was all I had to drink. If I don’t buy pop, juice, tea, etc then I don’t have it available to drink. I keep a bottle of water with me at all times. When I’m thirsty I drink it. It’s always nearby me so I tend to drink more.
Drink Water Before Every Meal:
I set up a sort of schedule for my water drinking. I drink a bottle of water before every meal. This way I know that I’m getting in 4 bottles (16 ounces each) I drink one for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner every single day. This way I will at least get my 64 ounces in. Then I add more in throughout the day to try to reach my goal. It has become a great habit that has become second nature for me. Plus I eat less when my stomach is full from the water! Win win.
Order Something Spicy:
I don’t know about you but if I eat something spicy then I will be drinking plenty of water to help out my taste buds. It’s one of my tricks I use at restaurants all the time. Keeps me reaching for the water all through the meal. Plus they say it’s good for your metabolism.
Use Your Phone:
I recently found this really cool water bottle from Ozmo. It’s really easy to use. Just like a regular water bottle it’s insulated and keeps your water cold. However, this one syncs with your phone and keeps track of your water intake. How cool is that? They have a really neat app you download on your phone and it will track your goal (you can enter whatever amount of ounces your want) and will log the water as you drink it from the cup throughout the day. I can even set it up to vibrate the water bottle (which I always have close by me) to remind me that I need to drink. So I can set it up to vibrate every hour or a set number of minutes. It’s a great way to track your water and keep yourself on track with your goals. You can even sync it to other apps your use like apple health and fitbit. I am loving mine and it has really helped me improve my water intake.
