This week was really rainy and cold, we have been spoiled with early spring weather so we have been disliking the change in weather. So we decided to play a fun game for family game night to lift our spirits this weekend since there was no outside time. We played at great strategy game called Battle Sheep from Blue Orange games. So fun and really challenged our logic and problem solving. We also tried out a really yummy snack from Mrs Thinsters, we tried out their cookie thins. They were so yummy.
Battle Sheep from Blue Orange games is a really fun strategy based game. It’s fun for the entire family, my seven year old loved it as well as my teenagers. It’s rare to find a game that is suitable and enjoyed by a wide range of ages so we were excited to find this one. The game seems simple but once you start to play the game you realize there is a lot of problem solving and strategy that goes into the game to avoid being blocked by other players and get the most pastures. We had a really good time playing it.
In the box you will find:
16 pasture pieces
4 sets of 16 battle sheep tokens (in four colors)
1 Instruction booklet
Who Would Enjoy This Game:
The game is designed for 2-4 players ages 7 and up. As I mentioned we all enjoyed it at all different age levels. It was easy enough for my 7 year old to enjoy but the strategy made it really fun for my older kiddos and me and my husband. I’m not sure that my 7 year old really understood the strategy part of it but she won several times so she still really enjoyed it. If you really like strategy type games, problem solving, and head to head competition then this is a really fun one. It is only four players so if you have a larger family you may have to take turns on who plays each round but the game play is quick enough that everyone can still get in on the fun.
Is It Fun:
We had a great time playing it. My seven your thought it was hilarious to block her older sister in so she couldn’t move and had the best time competing with her. My fifteen year old thought it would be super easy but quickly found it was harder then she expected it to be. We are pretty competitive so we had a blast trying to score the most points and block others from moving.
Game play is pretty simple. Each player is given 4 pasture pieces and a set of 16 battle sheep. Each player has a different color to keep track of their sheep. To start you will go around the table and place your pasture pieces one at a time interlocking them like a puzzle to build the playing board. I like this because no two boards are the same so the game changes every round. Once the game board is set up each player will place all of their battle sheep in one stack on an outside square on the board. When play begins you will take turns going around the table moving your stack of sheep. To move split your stack into two stacks (you can decide how many token are in each stack but there must be at least 1 token in each stack). You will move the new pile in a straight light following the pasture grids until you run to the end of the game board or you run into another sheep (you are not allowed to jump over other sheep). If you become surrounded by sheep you can not move and those sheep will become unplayable. The game play ends when no one is able to move anymore pieces. The winner is determined by the person with the most pieces of pasture (mean you have a sheep on that square). If there is a tie then you count who has the largest herd meaning the most sheep that are connected by at least on side.
No there were not any concerns with this one. It was fun for the entire family and we all enjoyed it. If you have a large family or group you will have to take turns playing since it is only 4 players.
