CBD oil is a reliable and suitable treatment method for dogs facing a variety of ailments – we know this. However, even though we can take that information at face value, and even though we know the natural supplement will work, we don’t necessarily know what exact dosage to administer.
We have to be honest with you before we continue writing this brief article:
Finding the perfect CBD dosage for your dog can be extremely tricky – especially in the beginning.
That’s okay, though; every dog parent goes through the process. We’re just here to hold your hand while you figure it all out. The basics are all you really need to know when you begin the administration process, and that’s exactly what we’re going to clue you in on right now.
How to Administer CBD Oil – In Drops
For starters, CBD is almost always administered in drops (except for when you purchase doggie treats or topical supplements). The tricky part, then, is finding out how many drops you should administer to your dog when treating him or her.
Let’s get one thing squared away: Every brand of CBD oil can have a different recommendation on the labeling. For instance, one brand could recommend administering two to four drops of CBD oil, whereas another can say anywhere from one to five drops. It all depends on the company. Generally speaking, though, almost all CBD brands recommend administering two to four drops two to four times a day.
What Determines an Increase or Decrease in Dose?
Typically, there are two reasons for increased or decreased CBD dosage:
- The size and/or weight of your dog
- The ailment your dog is facing
If your dog is considered a small breed, like, say, Yorkshire Terriers are, you probably will lean towards the two-drop recommendation. On the other hand, if your dog is considered a large breed, like, say, Siberian Huskies are, you probably will lean towards the four-drop recommendation. The same goes for ailments; if your pup is facing separation anxiety issues, he or she may only need the supplement when his or her anxiety acts up. However, if he or she is facing cancer, the dosage may differ.
Do We Have Any Specific Advice We Can Leave You With?
CBD companies almost always have third-party testers to ensure that their products are safe and 100% organic and natural. Because of that, we encourage all buyers to trust the labeling and packaging on the CBD oil brand if you’ve found that they do, in fact, third-party test their CBD oils. With that being said, we highly recommend that you follow the company’s general instructions. Always start slow to see how your dog responds to treatment – for instance, give him or her the two drops before increasing the dosage to four drops. Then, wait a few hours to see the reaction, and if you find it fitting to increase the dosage to help your pup out, do so accordingly.
If you have any questions, give the company a quick phone call to make sure everything is A-OK. If things seem to be off, calling your veterinarian wouldn’t hurt either. However, keep in mind, CBD is an all-natural, organic, and completely safe supplement for your dog to consume. Adverse reactions are highly unlikely, just to ease your worries.
